Unbelievably for a club of Walshaw’s stature, there isn’t really an old boys section or any planned activities so we are looking at starting the ball rolling and introducing a few idea’s that will hopefully get ex players and members to re connect to the club and the section. We would welcome any individuals who wanted to get back involved with coaching or organising but more importantly it will be great just to see a few more “old” faces down at the club having a pint and watching the cricket
Brief update as we start the count down to the 2014 season. Next year will be a pivotal year as the B&DCA enters an transitional season before splitting into 2 divisions for 2015, so where we finish in 2014 will determine if we enter the top or bottom division . . . we fully anticipate being in the top division. The 1st team finished reasonably well and again secured a place in the lancs Knockout despite a couple of injuries to key players. The junior set up is still strong especially at the younger age groups with the U11’s being the pick winning the treble of league, cup and divisional play off.
After the washout in the 2012, we managed to finally play the T20 game between the current Walshaw squad and an Old boys XI in memory of Geoff Ormerod. In a very competitive game the current squad came out winners with the old boys (as you would expect considering who played) pushing them all the way. Ultimately the current squads prowess in the field was telling but arguably the fading light was also a factor . . . . battle plans have been drawn for 2014 for both sides. Thanks must go to Geoff’s daughters Sue & Pam who donated a fantastic silver engraved trophy. We aim to repeat the fixture in 2014 (plus maybe a more social beer game) in June or July to avoid holiday season and fading light. Many thanks for all those old boys who turned up.
Dates for your Diary
Race Night Friday 1st Nov
We are having a race night on Friday 1st Nov at the club 7.30pm start. Free entry and food available. We have installed some new nets this year, the cost of these plus the additional expense of some drainage have left the funds in the red. If you fancy coming down to the event, please do so and make it an impromptu reunion. Failing that please get in touch we me and buy a horse for £5. If your horse wins you get a prize (you know how it works), Donate £10 towards a prize or sponsor a race for £20. All donation and race sponsors will be entered into a prize draw so everyone stands a chance of winning.
Old Boys Reunion Day – Saturday May 10th Walshaw 1st v Elton 1st
People who attended the Old boys T20 game said how good it was to come back to the club, have a drink and watch some cricket and how they should do it more often. So here’s your opportunity, and what better game to watch than against or nearest rivals Elton. All come down, food available, bar open and watch some cricket whilst catching up and remembering all those tales and seeing how you compare to the current crop.
Will update with some more dates as they get confirmed.
We are always on the look out for additional sponsorship. You or Your company can sponsor a match/Ball for £30 or £50. Sponsor board at the ground are available for £200. Please think if this is something you can do or if its something that you could help to get from your company or through other contacts you may know.
Money is extremely tight at present and any ideas or help would have a huge positive impact.
Feel free to get in touch with me through email or give me a ring on 07767 336474 and hopefully we may see a few of you down in the near future
